Turner Family | Louisville KY Family Photographer

This is one good looking family. I adore them all the way down to the unruly toddler curls and the kitty cat ballet flats. 🙂 Loved meeting the Turner crew, and turns out we have kiddos in school together. Cheers to new friends! xo

Styled Family Session | Louisville KY Family Photographer

For. The. Love. This session. The Halaris crew took my creative vision and brought it to life. They brought energy, laughter and crazytogetherness. I brought flowers, sparkles, and my camera.

Prior to the shoot though, I provided in-home wardrobe consultation by a professional stylist, a blowout for mom at a local salon and makeup by a professional makeup artist. My team and I took the guesswork out the day – we took the stress out of the day. For our Styled Family Session, everyone was looking and feeling good, they were able to simply enjoy and be in the moment. Sounds dreamy, right?

No one is this happy AND good looking. Wait. Except they are. 🙂

Louisville Grows | Louisville KY Family Photographer

Every business starts from somewhere. Every non-profit has a mission. The stories can be told in articles and columns, but you can actually feel the motivation and the why through photographs. I made some images this Spring for Louisville Grows. They create community gardens in food-insecure neighborhoods in Louisville, plant local trees to support our canopy and support children’s education on gardening (to name a few). Natives and refugees from around the world work hand in hand to grow food, sustainability and community. Such an amazing mission 🙂

Bleuel Family | Louisville KY Family Photographer

The Bleuels are headed back to Alaska after a few years in Louisville. But before their move Northwest, they asked me to make some family portraits. The Louisville pedestrian bridge is a special place for them – a place where they took all of their visitors and spent lots of family time playing and exploring. So we soaked up a sunny morning from the playground to the bridge and back. All the Louisville love going back to Alaska with you guys! Safe travels <3

(Not Just Another) Day At the Downs | 142

Not just another day at the Downs. This was my third year attending the Kentucky Derby under the wing of legendary sports photographer, Bill Frakes. I assisted and worked in the studio with him when he was shooting for Sports Illustrated during my college years at Florida State. No one works harder than this man. Seriously.

I set my alarm for 4am in order to be at Churchill Downs by 5:45am with the other assistants. For that wakeup, I am thankful. Witnessing the track waking up, the calm media room before the storm, breathing in the horses and the anticipation of the most exciting day in sports can’t be done by sleeping in.

Most of the day I was on my own to shoot for myself – my own little feature story. Then when I took to my post in the fourth turn to check, check again, and triple check on my remote cameras, I took a few iphone snaps. The sky opened up and released a fury of a storm that was thankfully short lived. We unbagged the cameras and settled in for the fastest two minutes in sports.

And just like that… it was over. Collect camera bodies, turn in cards to for the ESPN feature, sort clean and repack gear for their next trip to the Invictus Games in Florida (like I said, hardest working). I ran out to shoot the last race of the day under an angry stormy sky. A few bites of food and goodbye to new friends and old, and I was off to find a cab at 9:45pm in the driving rain.

I will never tire of Kentucky, the pride of its people and the beauty of these incredible animals.
